Besides world-famous beaches like Santa Monica and Venice Beach, there are multiple attractive beaches beloved by locals or famous as filming locations!
This time, as our 10th beach introduction!!, we’ll introduce Redondo Beach, a popular tourist destination!
1. What is Redondo Beach?

It’s a seaside harbor town in the South Bay area of Los Angeles.
Located about 8 miles from LAX, approximately 20 minutes by car, it’s relatively close and an attractive place for both tourists and business visitors!
Besides upscale seafood restaurants and beautiful hotels, there are also casual shops where you can enjoy dishes and sweets made with local ingredients.
The beachside walkway is well-maintained, and one of its charms is being able to stroll leisurely while viewing the beautiful ocean.
2. History of Redondo Beach
In 1889, the first pier was built in Redondo Beach.
This pier was used to transfer large amounts of lumber from ships to trains for transport to the American Northwest.
In 1890, Hotel Redondo was built, establishing its status as a tourist destination, and many tourists began visiting this town.
In 1905, Redondo Beach High School, the oldest in the South Bay area, was established and functioned as an educational hub.
Even after Hotel Redondo was demolished in 1925, Redondo Beach continued to grow.
Particularly from the 1950s to 1960s, the population surged from about 13,092 in the 1950s to 54,772 in 1965.
Today’s Redondo Beach is one of the resort destinations loved by local residents and bustling with tourists.

3. What is Redondo Beach Pier?
Redondo Beach Pier is a pier that can be called one of the town’s symbols.
The pier is lined with many shops and restaurants where you can enjoy shopping and dining.
Redondo Beach Pier is particularly known for its beautiful sunsets at dusk, and many people are moved by its beauty.
This place, where you can spend time leisurely while watching the sun set into the ocean, is one of the must-see recommended spots for tourists.

4. Old Tony’s (Tony’s on the Pier) (Restaurant)
At Tony’s on the Pier, known as Old Tony’s, you can enjoy delicious seafood-centered cuisine.
This restaurant has been popular with locals and tourists since opening in 1952.
From the restaurant seats, you can view Redondo Beach Pier, and seagulls sometimes come close by.
The restaurant’s recommended drink is “Mai Tai,” a cocktail with light rum, dark rum, and fruit juice.

5. Jus’ Poke (Restaurant)
Jus’ Poke is a popular restaurant run by a Hawaiian-rooted owner serving “poke,” a traditional Hawaiian dish.
As a healthy dish using fresh seafood, it’s highly rated by Americans living in Redondo Beach.
Both the regular original poke and the poke mixed with spicy sauce were very delicious!

6. The Boy & The Bear – Coffee Roastery
This is The Boy & The Bear – Coffee Roastery’s Redondo Beach location.
It’s a popular cafe with multiple locations featuring a very stylish atmosphere and logo.
You can enjoy delicious specialty coffee from Colombia!
This time I ordered a mild and delicious hot latte, and a refreshing Sparkling Ice Americano with espresso and carbonation!
You might not often see drinks combining espresso and carbonation in Japan, but it was refreshing, easy to drink, and very delicious, so please try it!
7. In Conclusion
Redondo Beach is one of the attractive seaside towns with a stylish and relaxed atmosphere!
It’s close to LAX and easy to visit, so please come by at least once!
