Overall Impression of the Tesla

Ride comfort was excellent, and the car’s tight turning radius was impressive.

The interior is surprisingly spacious—you can pack a lot of gear.

With the rear seats folded flat, we fit three adults plus suitcases with no problem.

Acceleration was satisfying too. The only drawback was having to glance at the center screen to use the turn-signal controls, which felt a bit awkward.

Using the Tesla App

The Tesla app felt truly revolutionary.

The location-sharing feature is great for meeting up or sharing the car among several drivers.

Because each driver can carry a “key” on their phone, it’s incredibly convenient.

Saving individual seat and mirror presets, and sending destinations from your phone straight to the car’s nav, were especially handy.

One downside is that, when several people use the app, privacy concerns can arise.

Full Self-Driving (FSD) First Impressions

I was a little nervous the first time I enabled full autonomy.

The more I used it, the clearer it became which tasks I could trust the car with and when I needed to step in. My confidence grew quickly.

By drop-off day I felt far more comfortable with FSD; it even doubled as turn-by-turn navigation.

FSD: Convenience and Challenges

As noted above, FSD can function like an advanced GPS. In a vast country like the U.S.—especially on unfamiliar roads—that’s a lifesaver.

It handles lane changes and highway exits, letting you focus on safety.

Its performance on right and left turns still isn’t perfect, but straight-line reliability is high, and it even coped well on winding mountain roads.

When you disengage FSD, you can dictate the reason aloud, and that feedback goes straight to Tesla for future updates—a brilliant feature.

Expectations vs. Reality

Before the trip I expected FSD to handle almost everything on surface streets, so my hopes were high.

Because of those high expectations, the shortcomings stood out. For example, at uncontrolled intersections the car reacts a bit more slowly than a human driver.

Even so, FSD is clearly state-of-the-art, and I believe it will surpass human skills one day.

Once you learn its quirks, FSD is a very handy tool—I’d love to try it again.

Charging-Station Experience

Tesla’s charging network is expanding quickly, but crowding and the limited number of locations still need work.

On long trips you must plan your route around Superchargers.

Compared with gas cars, this can add stress in everyday use and on road trips.

Charge Time & Range

A full charge that provides roughly 200 miles of range is fine for daily driving, but it can feel short on longer legs.

AC use and other loads affect range, so smart energy management is essential.

Even day-to-day, waiting to charge can be inconvenient.

Overall, the customer rated the Tesla very highly.

Charging still takes effort, so further improvements there would be welcome.

FSD isn’t completely hands-off yet, but if Tesla solves these challenges the car’s appeal will only grow.
