American Sniper Filming Location: Seal Beach and Its Charming Shopping Street

What place comes to mind when you think of beaches in America or California?

Besides world-famous beaches like Santa Monica and Venice Beach, there are multiple attractive beaches that are beloved by locals or famous as filming locations!

This time, as our 7th beach introduction!!, we’ll introduce Seal Beach in Orange County, next to Los Angeles!

1. What is Seal Beach?

Seal Beach is one of the charming beach towns in Orange County, California.

It’s located about 30 miles from LAX, approximately 30 minutes by car.

This area was originally called Bay City, but since there was already a Bay City in Northern California, when it gained city status in 1915, it was newly named Seal Beach.

The name comes from the fact that seals frequently appeared on the coast of this area in the past.

2. The Long Pier (Seal Beach Municipal Pier) and Charming Shopping Street

The main attraction of Seal Beach is the Seal Beach Pier and the nearby shopping street along Main Street.

The pier is about 1,865 feet long (approximately 568 meters), making it one of the particularly long wooden piers in California.

Also, the shopping street on nearby Main Street has many stylish and attractive shops.

Since it’s away from the center of Los Angeles, it’s less crowded and you can enjoy a leisurely stroll!

3. Filming Location of American Sniper

Seal Beach is also the filming location for the movie “American Sniper.”

This popular work directed by Clint Eastwood was released in 2014, winning the Academy Award for Best Sound Editing, receiving nominations in five other categories, and winning numerous other awards.

Furthermore, this movie is based on the bestselling autobiography “American Sniper: The Autobiography of the Most Lethal Sniper in U.S. Military History” by Chris Kyle, who was praised as the most lethal sniper in U.S. military history.

The Seal Beach scene appears in a relatively peaceful moment in the movie where the main character Chris and his wife Taya are on a date!

If you look closely at the scenes before and after they win a brown teddy bear as a prize at a shooting game at a stall near the pier, you can clearly see it was filmed at Seal Beach.

4. Stylish Cafe Like a Fairytale World: “The Crema Cafe”

This is a very charming restaurant and bakery located along Main Street!

Opened in 2005, you can enjoy breakfast and lunch menu items like sandwiches, as well as sweets like cakes and baked goods along with delicious coffee!

This time we ordered banana cream pie and other items, which were very delicious without any unpleasant aftertaste and not too sweet.

Cookies and such are easy to carry, so it’s also recommended to take them to the beach to eat!

5. Perfect T-Shirt Shop for Souvenirs: “SB Shoppe”

This is a T-shirt shop that opened in 2000, selling T-shirts with unique Seal Beach designs and cute California-style designs!

With so many T-shirts sold in the store, you’re sure to find one you like.

The staff were also very friendly and easy to talk to, making for a very enjoyable shopping experience!

Please choose a stylish T-shirt as a Seal Beach souvenir!

6. Must-Eat at the Pier! “Paradis Ice Cream”

This is a popular ice cream shop with about 50 stores in Denmark and several stores in California.

They make handmade ice cream using the best ingredients carefully selected from around the world!

This time we had Oreo, Eggnog, and S’Mores (marshmallow ice cream with graham crackers and chocolate chips), and all flavors were rich, sweet, and delicious!

Main Street itself has a stylish and relaxing atmosphere, so eating in front of the shop is nice, but taking it to the beach to eat is even more recommended for the sense of openness!

7. In Conclusion

Seal Beach, where you can enjoy a very stylish shopping street and a long pier!

One of its charms is that there are many parking lots in front of the shopping street, so you won’t waste time looking for parking!

It’s a recommended place for leisurely sightseeing, so please visit at least once.

There are many attractive beaches, including Huntington Beach next to Seal Beach! Please check out our Instagram too!
