Honestly, this number lines up with what we typically see.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"styled_h3\">\u25a0 Finance charges<\/h3>\n<p>If you finance or lease, expect about <strong>$1,131 per year<\/strong> in interest \u2014 down from $1,332 in 2024 as auto loan rates have <span class=\"q_underline2\">eased a bit<\/span>. Still on the higher side compared to a few years back.<\/p>\n<p>Auto loan rates aren&#8217;t one-size-fits-all.<\/p>\n<p>If your <span class=\"q_underline1\">credit history<\/span> is solid, you might land somewhere around 5\u20136%. But if there are issues on your credit report, rates can <span class=\"q_underline2\">shoot up to 15\u201316%<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>The AAA average sits roughly in the middle, which feels about right.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"styled_h3\">\u25a0 Fuel<\/h3>\n<p>About <strong>13 cents per mile<\/strong> \u2014 a meaningful drop from 14.9 cents in 2024 thanks to lower gas prices. At 15,000 miles a year, that&#8217;s roughly <strong>$1,950 annually<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>From where I sit \u2014 dealing with a lot of Toyota hybrids and other fuel-efficient cars \u2014 even with this dip, fuel costs still add up fast.<\/p>\n<p>That said, this is the average across all vehicle types \u2014 worth keeping in mind.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"styled_h3\">\u25a0 Insurance<\/h3>\n<p>About <strong>$1,694 per year<\/strong> \u2014 basically flat from $1,715 in 2024. Honestly, this one still feels a little low to me.<\/p>\n<p>Coverage varies a lot person-to-person \u2014 some folks go with comprehensive plans, others stick with the state minimum, so it&#8217;s hard to generalize. This is actually the only category that <span class=\"q_underline2\">climbed in 2025<\/span> (up from 10.13 cents in 2024), which lines up with what I&#8217;ve been seeing on the lot.<\/p>\n<p>Modern cars come with bigger wheels \u2014 and many use low-profile tires for styling \u2014 which wear faster.<\/p>\n<p>Replacement costs are also higher than they used to be.<\/p>\n<p>On top of that, vehicles are getting heavier (especially anything with batteries), which puts more wear on the tires.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"q_underline2\">Tires, brakes, batteries, and oil changes<\/span> are all trending up cost-wise, and that&#8217;s pushing the maintenance number higher each year.<\/p>\n<p>With a new car, the first three years are typically under warranty, so you don&#8217;t have to worry as much about repair bills.
