History<\/h3>\n<p>Wayfarers Chapel traces its origins to the late 1920s, when members of the Swedenborgian Church living in what is now Palos Verdes first dreamed of building it.<\/p>\n<p>More specifically, they envisioned a small, beautiful sanctuary set on a bluff overlooking the Pacific\u2014somewhere travelers (wayfarers) could stop to rest, meditate, and give thanks to God.<\/p>\n<p>Although church members donated land and began planning, the Great Depression and then World War II delayed construction for many years.<\/p>\n<p>At last, in 1951 the chapel was completed\u2014and it has been beloved ever since.<\/p>\n<p><mark class=\"hl-yellow\">Today, Wayfarers Chapel is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and in December 2023 it was further designated a National Historic Landmark.<\/mark><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-10447\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ecodriveondemand.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/\u30a2\u30a4\u30ad\u30e3\u30c3\u30c12-7.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"440\" \/><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"styled_h3\">3. Closure, Demolition &#038; Future Reconstruction<\/h3>\n<p>At present the chapel is closed because heavy rains and ongoing landslides have made the site unsafe.<\/p>\n<p>In fact, the chapel grounds and the surrounding area have experienced varying degrees of land movement for more than 50 years.<\/p>\n<p>During March\u2013April 2024 the bluff reportedly shifted about 7 inches (\u2248 17.8 cm) per week.<\/p>\n<p><mark class=\"hl-yellow\">Engineers have now concluded that the only way to preserve and restore the structure without further damage is to dismantle it immediately.<\/mark><\/p>\n<p><mark class=\"hl-pink\">The plan is to re-assemble Wayfarers Chapel at a safer location\u2014so one day we can again experience its glass-and-green splendor.<\/mark><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-10451\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ecodriveondemand.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/\u30a2\u30a4\u30ad\u30e3\u30c3\u30c13-7.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"440\" \/><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"styled_h3\">4.
