Old Point Loma Lighthouse<\/h4>\n<p>Standing on a hilltop inside Cabrillo National Monument, the Old Point Loma Lighthouse is a historic lighthouse first lit in 1855.<\/p>\n<p>It sits about 128 m (roughly 420 feet) above sea level, and the grounds around it <mark class=\"hl-yellow\">look out over San Diego Bay and the Pacific in every direction<\/mark>.<\/p>\n<p>Inside, the keeper&#8217;s living quarters have been restored as a museum, with 19th-century navigation materials like lenses and charts on display \u2014 a treat if you&#8217;re into history. Point Loma Tide Pools<\/h4>\n<p>Down below the bluffs on the ocean side is a wide tide pool area known as the Point Loma Tide Pools, where low tide reveals plenty of anemones, sea stars, crabs and small fish.<\/p>\n<p>The rock here is hard Point Loma sandstone with striking curved bands, and paired with the clear pools it&#8217;s a popular photo spot. The surface turns slick wherever algae grows, though, so wear closed-toe shoes with good grip and keep an eye on the waves.<\/p>\n<p>The best window runs from about an hour before to an hour after peak low tide.
